Baptism
Baptism of Infants
Congratulations on the birth of your child. We know that this a special time for you and your family and we are delighted that you are considering Baptism in the Catholic Church. We, like you, believe that the Sacrament of Baptism is a decision for the lifetime of your child.
The process begins with a parent/s making contact with the Parish Office. You will given a Baptism Request form to complete and return it to the Parish Office where a date for Baptism can be arranged.
No other arrangements, for example flights or hotels, should be made until the date for Baptism has been finalised.

Notes
-
At least one parent must be Catholic.
-
The Child’s Birth Certificate, along with a completed request form, must be provided to the Parish Office before Baptism.
-
As Balbriggan has a large young population, thankfully there are a great numbers of babies presented for Baptism each year. As a result it is not possible to have individual Baptisms but we do our best to make this wonderful event a personal and memorable day for each family.
-
Each child can have only one godfather and one godmother. Godparents must be over the age of 16, and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Baptism for Older Children
For a number reasons, children may not have received the Sacrament of Baptism as infants. Parents are asked to contact the Parish Office who will meet and assist them in such situations. Depending on age Children may need to take part in a 4 week Baptism Prepartion Club, which usually takes place in October.
Baptism for Adults
Adults who would like to be baptised into the Catholic Church are required to take part in a program of preparation. For more information, please contact the Parish Office.
